Arguably, one of the most polarizing elected officials in Southern California, DA George Gascón, will face the voters and a pool of 11 contenders looking to unseat him.

He's already survived two failed recall attempts spearheaded by people who perceive him as soft on crime. And as political science professor Matt Lesenyie tells KNX News Chief Correspondent Charles Feldman, Gascón is a safe bet to advance to the November General election due at least partially to all the bad press.

Here is the long list of hopefuls trying to take his spot:

"Most Angelenos won't recognize these names. To the extent that they recognize anybody, It's gonna be Gascón and likely because his name is attached with or affiliated with negative coverage," said Lesenyie.

A recent poll conducted by Cal State Long Beach, Cal Poly Porra at US C showed that Gascón has an approval rating of just 24% while 51% disapprove.

However, that same poll showed a whopping 64% of voters are still deciding on the DA race, meaning it's doubtful that any two challengers can eliminate him in the primary.
