The Pasadena Humane Society is once again enlisting the help of its canine residents to predict the outcome of the Rose Bowl Game.

For the second year running, shelter dogs will be presented with two bowls of food, each representing a competing team.

"We're bringing the dogs out one at a time," explained Dia DuVernet, president and CEO of the Pasadena Humane Society. "We've got two identical bowls filled with the same food, one with for Oregon Ducks, one for Ohio State."

The pups accurately predicted last year's winner, and based on this year's selections, DuVernet says it's going to be a close game.

"We've got predictions of nine dogs picking Oregon and eight dogs picking Ohio State, but Oregon is going to be the winner of the Rose Bowl game."

The Pasadena Humane Society is also actively involved in Rose Parade festivities. "We're participating again this year in the Rose Parade with our sponsors Hill's Pet Nutrition, and we're gonna have a float titled 'Welcome Home' that celebrates the adoption of shelter animals," DuVernet shared.

"The theme of the parade this year is 'best day ever,' and that's definitely the best day ever for shelter animals when they are adopted into their new homes," she added.

To encourage adoptions, the Humane Society is offering several special promotions. "Last year we had a lot of people who came by to adopt, and we're not open on New Year's usually, but this year we are gonna open on New Year's Day for adoption. We're hoping to clear out the shelter to start the year," DuVernet said.

The shelter is participating in a nationwide adoption promotion with Hill's Pet Nutrition, offering $100 off the adoption fee for the first 100 cats and dogs adopted in the new year.

Additionally, a special promotion is underway now through the 31st for larger dogs. "We've got our 'Roses and Wet Noses' event promotion sponsored by the Pet Care Foundation, and we're waiving the adoption fees for dogs 40 pounds and over, really wanting to bring attention to the number of large dogs in shelters who need a new home," DuVernet stated.
