Investigators responded that afternoon to the 300 block of South Huntington Avenue, between Arrow Highway and Cienega Avenue, regarding a fatal stabbing, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide Lt. Daniel Vizcarra.
Investigators determined upon further investigation that Huang and her wife were engaged in an argument at their residence moments before Huang attacked her with a sword, according to sheriff's officials.
Huang's wife was identified by the medical examiner as Chen Chen Fei, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to sheriff's officials.
"At some point, Huang attacked Fei with a sword. Fei's mother was also attacked and severely injured; however, was able to gain control of the sword and fled the residence looking for help," sheriff's officials said.
Fei's mother was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries, authorities said.
Huang has remained behind bars since her arrest by sheriff's deputies, jail records show.
She could face a maximum sentence of life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney's Office.
