Woman pulled to safety after car goes 300 feet over cliff in Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Rescue crews pulled a woman out of a canyon in Griffith Park Wednesday morning after her car went over the side of a cliff, less than a half mile from the famous Griffith Observatory.

Authorities received a 911 call shortly before 7 a.m. reporting that a car had fallen into a canyon off West Observatory Drive near Mount Hollywood Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The vehicle was lodged in a canyon after falling approximately 400 feet from the road.

Upon arriving at the vehicle, park rangers found the 68-year-old female occupant. Her name has not yet been released, but she was described as “alert” and able to talk about her injuries. The severity of those injuries was not immediately clear.

She was lifted into a rescue helicopter shortly before 8 a.m.
