Claudia Corugedo was taken into custody at the end of the pursuit and shooting on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Paramedics dispatched to 20935 W. Arcana Road at 8:13 a.m. Monday rushed her to a hospital in serious condition, said Lyndsey Lantz of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Officers were called at 7:15 a.m. Monday to the 13000 block of Sherman Way in Van Nuys to investigate a white van with bullet holes in its windshield. When they arrived, they found Corugedo in the driver's seat of the van, police said.
Officers learned she had a felony warrant and tried to detain her, but she pointed a pistol at her own throat and took off, prompting a chase, police said.
The pursuit ended in the 20900 block of Arcana, but Corugedo refused to surrender and continued to point the pistol at her throat while also holding a machete, according to the LAPD.
A SWAT team was summoned, but before they arrived, Corugedo got out of the van and headed toward the front door of a home. She was still armed with the pistol and knife, prompting officers to open fire, police said.
"Corugedo was struck by gunfire and collapsed near the entryway of the residence," according to a police statement.
SWAT personnel took her into custody and paramedics rendered aid before she was taken to a hospital, police said.
"The investigation determined Corugedo was in possession of a BB gun designed to resemble a semiautomatic pistol," according to the LAPD. "A metal machete was also recovered at the scene."
Corugedo is facing possible felony evading charges, police said.
No officers or members of the public were injured.
The LAPD's Force Investigation unit was investigating the encounter.
