LOS ANGLES (KNX) - A woman was arrested today after stealing a medical transport van with an elderly patient inside, leading to a brief and bizarre police chase through the San Fernando Valley.
At about 9:20 this morning, a passenger van for Golden Age Adult Day Health Care stopped to pick up a patient from the curb. Once the driver got out of the van, a woman hopped into the driver’s seat and took off — with a 93-year-old patient still inside, Golden Age owner Elliott Galynsky told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener.
The carjacker drove through Sherman Oaks and Studio City for about 20 to 30 minutes before the LAPD deployed helicopters, Galynsky said.
The chase ended when the van hit a dead end on Tyrone Avenue and Saticoy Street in Van Nuys and was blocked in by patrol vehicles. The woman surrendered and was taken into custody.
The 93-year-old passenger is shaken up and bewildered, but otherwise okay, Galynsky said.
