The Oscars are two weeks away, and we’re hearing more about what to expect.

The 96th Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. So far, we know that Al Pacino, Jamie Lee Curtis, Nicholas Cage, and Michelle Yeoh will all be presenters. Scott Mantz, an L.A. movie critic, spoke to KNX News about the latest Oscars buzz.

He said that the last two years’ winners for lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, and supporting actress at the SAG Awards ended up winning the same categories at the Oscars.

“If you're asking me my opinion, I think it's going to be a third year in a row that these four categories will match up,” Mantz said.

At this year’s SAG Awards, Cillian Murphy won the lead actor award, Lily Gladstone won the lead actress award, Robert Downey Jr. won the supporting actor award, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the supporting actress award.

But Mantz said that even though Gladstone won at the SAG Awards, he thinks Emma Stone still has a chance at the Oscars.

He said the Best Picture and Best Director categories are a done deal.

“If you own a house, you can bet the house that ‘Oppenheimer’ is winning best picture,” Mantz said. “I mean, it did win best acting ensemble at the SAG Awards, but it also won best picture at the Producers Guild Awards.”

Christopher Nolan won Best Director for the film at the Director Guild Awards.

Mantz said that “Barbie” is this year’s “Top Gun: Maverick” because they made the same amount of money and both became pop cultural milestones. “Top Gun: Maverick” didn’t win Best Picture, and he said “Barbie” won’t win either.

The Oscars will be on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
