The animal protection organization In Defense of Animals is offering a $7,600 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a person who abandoned a German shepherd near Malibu Canyon Creek.
On the evening of July 3, two hikers found the 7-year-old dog in a remote area with his mouth zip-tied shut and another zip tie around his neck. The hikers called 911 and the dog was carried to safety.
“They were able to tempt him over and they managed to even get the zip tie off of his mouth and he was friendly and gentle,” Fleur Dawes, communications director at In Defense of Animals, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.
In a press release, Dawes revealed the dog has since been named Argon and that he may be suffering from lymphoma.
The German shepherd is now receiving care at the Agoura Animal Care Center. A Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control spokesperson said the dog has other medical issues and may have been exposed to poison oak.
