Multiple sources reported Saturday that two actors who appear on the Netflix series “The Chosen One” perished after a car crash in Mexico.

The Baja California Department of Culture Friday identified the deceased actors as Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar.

According to Netflix, “The Chosen One” is about a 12-year-old boy who learns he is Jesus Christ returned and is destined to save humankind. It is based on a comic book series by Mark Millar and Peter Gross. Netflix first announced the project in 2018.

In addition to Garduño Cruz and González Aguilar, six other cast or crew members were injured after the van they were riding in flipped over and crashed near Mulege on the Baja California Sur peninsula, said the Associated Press. They had been working near Santa Rosalia at the time.

Local media cited by the outlet reported that the crash occurred Thursday and that the crash happened when the vehicle ended up running off the road in a desert area.

Casting calls indicate the series is taped by an independent production company.
