Two hostages were released by Hamas late Monday, following negotiations with Qatar and Egypt, according to several reports.

The released hostages are Nurit Cooper, 79, and Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, Israeli government officials confirmed to CBS News.

Both women were abducted from their homes in Kibbutz Nir Oz by Hamas during its Oct. 7 terror attack in southern Israel. Their husbands remain in Gaza.

The women were reportedly handed over to Red Cross representatives at the Rafah border crossing and transferred to Israeli authorities.

The military wing of Hamas said it released Cooper and Lifshitz for "compelling humanitarian" reasons.

Their release follows the release of two American hostages, Judith and Natalie Raanan.
