2 teens charged in carjacking death of Pakistani Uber Eats driver, GoFundMe page set up to help family

Two girls have been charged with the carjacking death of a Pakistani immigrant who was killed last week while driving for Uber Eats in Washington, D.C.

The girls, who are 13 and 15 and have not been identified because they are considered juveniles, are from D.C, and Fort Washington, Maryland.

The driver, Mohammad Anwar, 66, was seen in a video from a bystander clinging to the side of the car after the girls had allegedly carjacked his car using a Taser. The car ended up crashing outside the Washington Nationals ballpark and Anwar died from the injuries sustained in the horrific incident. Anwar, who is from Springfield, Virginia, died last week.

The girls were charged with felony murder and armed carjacking, police said in a CNN story.

Yahoo reported that "An Uber representative told local radio station WTOP, "We are devastated by this tragic news and our hearts go out to Mohammad's family during this difficult time."

A GoFundMe page has raised more than $960,000 for his family.

"Mohammad Anwar was a hard-working Pakistani immigrant who came to the United States to create a better life for him and his family. He was simply at work yesterday evening, providing for his family, when his life was tragically taken in an appalling act of violence. The details are still being investigated, however we know that Anwar was working on an UberEats delivery when two assailants attempted to carjack him in Navy Yard," the GoFundMe says.

"Words can not describe how our family is feeling currently. Devastation, confusion, shock, anger, heartache, and anguish are just a few that come to mind. We will carry him with us always, but it doesn't take the pain away of losing him so tragically and so unexpectedly soon," the page says.
