An attack from a 5-year-old on his south Florida teacher resulted in the educator being hospitalized when she was "unresponsive," officials said on Monday.

The incident began when a 5-year-old boy was removed from class at Pines Lakes Elementary School because he was "flipping the chairs" and "throwing things around," according to a Pembroke Pines Police Department incident report NBC News obtained.

Because of his behavior, the student was put in a "cool down" room where he allegedly attacked the teacher, police said.

Not able to handle the child in the room, the teacher got on the school radio and called for help, NBC Miami reported.

The teacher, who has not been identified, was then reportedly found by an officer "sitting on the ground against the wall" when they arrived, according to the report.

The report said that the woman appeared to "be in a faint state" and was "clearly weak and dazed." First responders attempted to communicate with the teacher, but she was only able to "blink and breathe regularly but at no point was able to vocally respond or show signs of a response."

The educator was brought to a local hospital and has since been released, according to the police, Fox8 reported.

On Monday, a police spokesman shared with NBC News that while the child is being investigated for possible "aggravated assault with hands, fist and feet," it is not likely he will be criminally prosecuted.

The teacher, who is smaller in stature at 5-foot-4 and in her late 30s, suffered a concussion and other injuries due to the altercation, according to Broward Teachers Union President Anna Fusco.

"The way he pounced on her and the way she fell backwards and smacked her head, it was a severe concussion," Fusco said.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
