Police in Missouri ended up making a huge drug bust on 4-20, known as Weed Day, after a car transporting 500 pounds of illegal marijuana through the state crashed and spilled the entire shipment all over the freeway.

The three-vehicle crash happened Wednesday along I-70 in Callaway County, about 100 miles west of St. Louis.

"You don't see this everyday, but it is 4/20," the Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted, along with a photo of the crash scene that showed dozens of bags of marijuana on the roadway.

According to a crash report, a semitruck was attempting to avoid a previous crash when it was rear ended by a pickup truck that lost control. A second semitruck then hit the pickup truck, which was loaded with marijuana, police said.

Troopers arrived at the crash scene to find garbage bags full of packaged marijuana among car parts and other debris scattered across the freeway.

"After it was all collected at the crash scene, it took more than one patrol car to transport it to the evidence room," the highway patrol tweeted on Thursday. The pot weighed in around 500 pounds.

The semitruck drivers were not injured. Three people in the pickup truck, identified as Mexican immigrants, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

David Mora Navarro, 24, and Victor Gonzalez Acosta, 32, were arrested on charges of first-degree drug trafficking. Mora Navarro is also charged with careless driving resulting in a crash. They face up to 30 years in prison. The other passenger, a 37-year-old woman, has not been charged.

A probable cause statement obtained by KMIZ indicates that the men were transporting the marijuana from Oregon to Pennsylvania. The weed was packaged in 501 plastic bags each weighing 1.2 pounds, worth an estimated street value well over a million dollars, according to the report.
