Nearly 60% of Americans disapprove of the performance of Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to a CBS News/YouGov poll, just 41% of Americans approve of Harris's performance as vice president, while 59% disapprove to varying degrees.
Women (45%) were more likely than men (37%) to approve of Harris's job performance. Along party lines, 78% of Democrats, 31% of independents and 10% of Republicans give Harris their approval versus 90% of Republicans, 69% of independents and 22% of Democrats who disapprove.
Whether or not they approve of her performance, most people (54%) say they haven't heard or read anything about her work as vice president. Only 18% say Harris makes them "think better of the Biden administration" while 42% say she makes them "think worse." Another 39% say she does not have a positive or negative effect.
As for their feelings about Harris as Joe Biden's vice presidential running mate in 2024, 40% say they feel "dissatisfied" and 15% are "angry," while 31% are "satisfied," and 14% are "enthusiastic."
The poll also asked how voters perceive Harris as "the first woman and person of color to serve as vice president." Nearly half (48%) said it "doesn't matter," another 42% said it was a "good thing" and 10% said it was a "bad thing."
The same poll shows nearly identical approval ratings for President Joe Biden, with 40% saying they approve of his performance, 17% saying they somewhat disapprove and 43% saying they strongly disapprove.
On specific issues, Biden has the highest disapproval rating on his handling of inflation (71%), immigration (66%) and the economy (65%). Those surveyed approve most of the way Biden is handling jobs and employment issues (42%), the situation with Russia and Ukraine (42%) and foreign policy (41%).
The poll was conducted September 5-8 and sampled 2,335 adults.
