One of the Texans accused of storming the US Capitol has asked a US District Court for permission to travel.
Jenny Cudd of Midland has filed a petition and asks that she be allowed to go to Riviera Maya, Mexico on a weekend work bonding retreat with her employees from February 18th through the 21st.
Former US attorney Matthew Orwig says this sends a bad signal. "Especially at a time when people are pointing out that this group of protesters, violent and as it ended up, deadly protesters are treated differently than other groups of protesters."
Orwig does not think the United States District Court for the District of Columbia will grant permission. "The courts can be pretty strict on this, and I think there's a better than even shot that it won't be granted."
Cudd, a former Midland mayoral candidate livestreamed from Washington DC on January 6th and photos show she entered the US Capitol.
She said "we did break down Nancy Pelosi's office door. Somebody stole her gavel and took a picture, sitting in the chair, flipping off the camera."
Cudd says she personally did not do that or anything violent and was referring to others who were at the Capitol.
Cudd is charged with entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct
