More than 6,400 air fryers sold on Amazon are being recalled after it was discovered they have a risk of catching fire and potentially causing burns.
The recall for the Secura brand air fryers was posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The air fryers were sold on the company and Amazon’s website from May 2019 through October 2020. The models were priced between $48 and $90 and were black with silver accents.
Recalled models have the model number SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) with date code 1901 and model number SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) with date codes 1903 and 1904.
The fire risk is caused by a wire connection problem in the units that can result in the machine overheating.
So far, there have been nine reports of air fryers catching fire, burning, and smoking, though no injuries or property damage has resulted from the incidents.
If you have purchased one of the recalled air fryers, contact Secura at (888) 792-2360 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Mondays-Fridays or by visiting its recall website. Eligible consumers will receive compensation or a free replacement from the Secura website.
The company also said it is contacting all known purchasers.
