(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Lake County grand jury indicted alleged Highland Park shooter Robert Crimo III on 117 felony counts on Wednesday.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s office said Crimo was charged with 21 counts of first-degree murder, three for each of victim of the shooting.
An additional 48 counts of attempted murder and 48 counts of aggravated battery with a firearm — one for each victim who was struck by a bullet, bullet fragment, or shrapnel — were also charged against Crimo Wednesday.
Crimo was arrested on July 4, hours after police allege he used an assault-style rifle to kill seven people and injure dozens more at Highland Park’s Fourth of July parade.

Since then, the Highland Park community has held memorials, formed support groups, and has been at the center of a call to ban assault-style weapons.
Crimp is set to appear in court on Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. for his arraignment. There will be no preliminary hearing on Thursday, July 28.
"Our investigation continues,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said in a press release, “And our victim specialists are working around the clock to support all those affected by this crime that led to 117 felony counts being filed today.”
