During the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night, President Joe Biden took shots at his predecessor, the GOP, and members of the media.
With his opening comments, Biden took a shot at the press, calling them the "only group of Americans with a lower approval rating" than he has.
He went on to mention that it was the first time the president had attended the event in six years, taking aim at former President Donald Trump when giving a reason why.
"We had a horrible plague followed by two years of Covid," Biden said. "Just imagine if my predecessor came to this dinner this year, now that would really have been a real coup if that occurred."
This was the first widely attended event that Biden has attended due to the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the older president's exposure. Biden shared his support for democracy and the free press during the event.
The dinner was headlined by Trevor Noah, the host of the "Daily Show," and was held at the Washington Hilton with more than 2,500 guests present after two years off.
Jokes from Noah came on behalf of Biden, the First Lady, Sen. Mitch McConnell, the GOP, The New York Times, and more.
In closing remarks, the comedian gave a strong message on the importance of journalism, asking those present and at home to be grateful they live in a nation that supports the freedom of the press.
"I stood here tonight, and I made fun of the President of the United States, and I'm going to be fine," Noah said.
Several journalists were also honored throughout the night as the White House Correspondents' Association hosted the event for the first time since the pandemic began.
