A shooting broke out at an annual motorcycle rally in Red Rock, New Mexico, on Saturday evening, resulting in three people losing their lives and five more being injured, police shared.
The New Mexico State Police shared on social media that the scene was secure late on Saturday evening.
The state police force noted that one of the five people injured was airlifted to a hospital in Denver, while the remaining victims were taken to two local hospitals that officers said they “secured.”
There were upwards of 28,000 bikers expected to attend the 41st Annual Red River Memorial Day Motorcycle Rally.
According to the event’s website, “bikers from all different backgrounds” were set to attend and enjoy live music throughout the town, with “vendors carrying everything from leather and lace to food and fun.”
After news of the shooting broke, the nearby town of Taos put in an emergency curfew as a response while also stopping all alcohol sales, according to a Facebook post from the town.
The investigation remains ongoing at this point, and the New Mexico State Police is requesting that the public avoid Red River while they continue to collect evidence.
No motive or possible reasoning for the shooting has been shared at this time.
