The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday the recall of 4.8 million 'BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders', saying the portable blenders can catch fire, and the company has also received hundreds of reports of blades breaking during use.
"The firm has received approximately 329 reports of the blades breaking while in use, and an additional 17 reports of overheating or fires resulting in property damage claims of approximately $150,000. The firm has received about 49 reports of minor burns and one report of a laceration injury," says the report on the CPSC website.
Those who own a BlendJet are advised to stop using the recalled blenders immediately and contact the company for a free base unit replacement.
Consumers will need to cut the rubber seal from the base of their recalled blender into three or more pieces and upload a photo showing the serial number on the bottom of the unit and its rubber seal in pieces to BlendJet at www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall or send the image to safety@blendjet.com to receive the free base.

According to the Safety Commission, units with serial numbers between 5201 and 5542 as the first four digits are subject to recall.
Customers can identify their product's serial number using the "Is my BlendJet 2 Recalled?" tool at www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall.
