A cat that escaped from its pet carrier while trying to chase birds has been found after spending nearly three weeks roaming around the Boston Logan International Airport.

The cat, appropriately named Rowdy, started her big adventure on June 24 as her family returned to the U.S. from an Army deployment to Germany, NPR reported.

The details of Rowdy's escape are sketchy, but she took off some point after her Lufthansa flight landed. Soon after, the airport launched a large-scale search effort involving multiple agencies.

"They didn't know where she was when we went to pick her up," Rowdy's owner, Patty Sahli, wrote on Facebook. "She escaped her cage in the cargo area and they said she went to chase birds and they couldn't catch her."

While on the run for 19 days, the 4-year-old cat managed to evade airport personnel, airline employees, construction workers and animal experts.

She also dodged wildlife cameras and safe-release traps, and even eluded an animal tracker hired by Lufthansa to trap her, NPR reported.

Whether due to hunger or exhaustion, Rowdy finally allowed herself to be captured on July 13.

The airport shared photos of Rowdy on Twitter, writing they were "happy to report" she was found safe and going back home to her family.

Sahli was in shock to learn that the cat was located.

"I'm kind of in disbelief. I thought, 'What are the odds we're actually going to get her back,'" Sahli told the Associated Press. "It was such a community effort. We're just so grateful to everyone who helped look for her."

Rowdy received a health examination and was handed off to the Animal Rescue League of Boston to be reunited with her family.

Sahli expects to pick Rowdy up on Saturday.
