NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie checked himself into a hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.
"In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure," Christie tweeted around 6 p.m.
"I am thankful for our hardworking medical professionals and look forward to coming home soon," he wrote.
Earlier in the day, Christie announced that he had tested positive.
"I just received word that I am positive for COVID-19," Christie tweeted Saturday. "I want to thank all of my friends and colleagues who have reached out to ask how I was feeling in the last day or two. I will be receiving medical attention today and will keep the necessary folks apprised of my condition."
Christie is the latest associate of President Donald Trump to test positive.
The president is currently being treated for COVID-19 at a military hospital.
Christie was part of small group, that included former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who helped Trump prepare for Tuesday's presidential debate.
Trump’s prep team also included former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, who also tested positive for COVID-19.
Christie also attended last Saturday's Rose Garden ceremony for the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Sens. Thom Tillis and Mike Lee have also tested positive after attending the White House event.
