Day four brings more emotion from the witness stand at the trial of Derek Chauvin, charged with murder in the death of George Floyd.
First on the stand Thursday was Courtney Ross, Floyd's girlfriend. She was asked by prosecutors about their relationship and Floyd's struggle with drug addiction -- a struggle they shared.
"It's a classic story of how many people get addicted to opioids. We both suffered from chronic pain. Mine was in my neck and his was in his back. We both have prescriptions, but after prescriptions that were filled and, we got addicted."
Defense attorneys have said that they plan to show that Floyd's cause of death was drugs and high blood pressure.
Wednesday, a lawyer for Floyd's friend and his passenger on the day of his death, Maurice Hall, said if his client is called to testify he will plead the 5th to avoid self-incrimination. Thursday morning, Ross testified that she and Floyd would occasionally buy drugs from Hall.
A store clerk also testified Thursday that Hall may have tried to pass a counterfeit bill earlier that day on May 25 of 2020.
