PEMBROKE, Va. (KNX) — Thirty five years ago Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray shook their hips in the Catskills as Johnny and “Baby” and the world has never been quite the same. What a lot of people didn’t realize though, is the famous hotel where it all happened, isn’t in New York at all.
Scenes at the lodge where the iconic forbidden couple met were actually filmed in the South, at the Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia. To celebrate 35 years since the film’s release on Aug. 21, 1987, the lodge has created a two-night getaway to experience aspects of the film in real life.

“Step in Johnny Castle and Baby's dancing shoes for a weekend! Stay in Kellerman's Mountain House for one of our Dirty Dancing Themed Weekends,” the Lodge wrote on its website. “Enjoy a full itinerary of Dirty Dancing-themed activities, dance lessons, dance parties in Mary's Barn and more!” All meals are also included.
News of the themed getaway hasn’t been out long, but they’ve already sold out of all dates this year…with 325 days left in 2022! Don’t worry just yet, there are potentially dates available as early as April 2023. While you wait to book, check out the itinerary here.
If you love the movie but just can't make a trip to Virginia work, there are two options for you. The first of course, is to watch the film!
The second, is to check out a new show on Fox that the Mountain Lake Lodge has been seriously promoting on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
"The Real Dirty Dancing," reality show premiered Feb. 1, with a cast of eight celebrities who must learn the movie's dance routines to make it to the end of the show.
The cast includes professional wrestler Brie Bella, comedian Anjelah Johnson, real-life dancer and Ellen cohost/sidekick Stephen "Twitch" Boss, among others. Interested? Stick around and check out the trailer below.
