The appeal of Dollar Tree is the fact that everything you can find in the store can be purchased for $1. That's why people go! Unfortunately, that's all about to change.
The chain recently announced price increases for some items that will push them over the vaunted $1 mark.
Rising costs in clothes, food, and "just about everything else" because of the pandemic have effected everybody, Dollar Tree not withstanding.
Dollar Tree CEO Michael Witynski said in a prepared statement per the Associated Press, "For decades, our customers have enjoyed the ‘thrill-of-the-hunt’ for value at one dollar - and we remain committed to that core proposition - but many are telling us that they also want a broader product assortment when they come to shop."
Witynski said that Dollar Tree is a "test and learn" company and will be watching how customers react to the news.
If social media is any indicator, the reaction is bad.
