Elton John revealed back in September that he was undergoing an “extremely slow” recovery process after being left partially blind following a “severe eye infection” earlier in the year.

Speaking with GMA host Robin Roberts this week about his upcoming Disney+ documentary Never Too Late, John said, “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France. It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. And my left eye is not the greatest.”

Elton added, “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment, because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know. Because I can’t see a lyric for a start."

“We’re taking an initiative to try and get it better," he continued, "but at the moment, that’s really what we’re concentrating on. It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen. And it kind of floored me, and I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”

Earlier this month, Elton John and Brandi Carlile released their collaborative single "Never Too Late" written for the upcoming documentary set for release on December 13 -- a song that “encompasses what I’ve been through,” John says of the track.

Elton John: Never Too Late follows Elton John as he looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career in this emotionally charged, intimate and uplifting full-circle journey. As he prepares for his final concert in North America at Dodger Stadium, Elton takes us back in time to recount the extraordinary highs and heartbreaking lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse and addiction to become the icon he is today.
