Schools in Ewing, New Jersey were closed on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution after New Jersey State Police received information that the township was possibly connected to the college attack.

According to police, the suspected gunman, 43-year-old Anthony McRae, had ties to the area. When police found him in Michigan, they found a note in his pocket indicating threats to two Ewing public schools.

McRae is suspected of killing three people and wounding five others at Michigan State Monday night before taking his own life.

Investigators said McRae had a history of mental health issues. Officials said he has not lived in the area for several years.

Officers were stationed at Ewing schools Tuesday, according to the Ewing Township superintendent, but authorities later determined there is no continued threat and it is isolated to Michigan State.

Ewing schools are expected to resume classes Wednesday.
