The Food and Drug Administration is warning that eating Diamond Shruumz-brand microdosing chocolate bars may cause seizures after people in four states fell ill after consuming the chocolate.
The agency shared last week that the victims suffered a variety of severe symptoms, including seizures, central nervous system depression, abnormal heart rates, agitation, nausea, vomiting, and hyper/hypotension.
Six of the eight victims needed to be hospitalized after consuming the candy bar, which the FDA said is sold nationwide. However, at which retailers are not known.
The FDA is also still working to determine what is causing the illnesses.
As for the chocolate bars, Diamond Shruumz’s website says they are made with a “primo proprietary blend of nootropic and functional mushrooms.”
The FDA is not aware of a specific flavor causing the illness, so as a result, it has issued a warning for eating any of the Diamond Shruumz microdosing chocolate bar flavors.
The agency is also warning parents to discuss the danger with children, as the product may appeal to younger Americans due to it being marketed as candy.
“Parents and caregivers should consider discussing the information in this advisory with their children and take extra care to avoid this product being consumed by younger people,” the FDA wrote on Friday.
As for the victims, the FDA said that the last case was reported on June 3, but so far, two victims have fallen ill in Indiana, one in Nevada, another in Pennsylvania, and four in Arizona.
A Banner Poison and Drug Information Center release shared that some of the victims in Arizona had to be intubated because of their reactions to the chocolate bars.

“While these products claim to contain only natural ingredients and no scheduled drugs, there is clearly something toxic occurring,” Steve Dudley, the director of the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, said in the release. “We’ve seen the same phenomenon of people eating the chocolate bar then seizing, losing consciousness, and having to be intubated.”
