SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - It was a work from home job that sounded easy and paid good money. All you had to do was repackage items shipped to your home and send them to someone else.

But U.S. Postal Inspector Kai Pickens says it was a scam, set up by someone in Russia buying things with stolen credit cards and reselling them using innocent middle men. "There are legitimate work from home opportunities, those are limited, but you have to do your research," Pickens said. "By and large, these reshippers, many of them are fraudulent."

Seventeen internet domain names linked to the scam have been shut down. No overseas players have been caught. "They're making money and they, by having these layers of other people reshipping and using stolen credit card information, they're removing themselves from being discovered," adds Pickens.

FBI Special Agent in Charge, Jay Greenberg, says they've seized 17 internet domain names set up by culprits based somewhere in Russia, "these are greedy international thieves. That's who is victimizing the Americans here."

The FBI says the local workers appear to have been duped, so they aren't in trouble. She says there's no reason why a legitimate company would not just ship their products directly to customers.
