LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A call is going out this Veterans Day for volunteers to help former members of the military who have a significant disability.
John Kleindienst, the national voluntary services director for the Disabled Veterans of America nonprofit, said there are a number of ways to get involved.

“The only limit is your imagination, we have opportunities from belonging to the DAV transportation network and becoming a volunteer driver to opportunities for you to volunteer inside the brick and mortar facilities where veterans receive their care and services,” Kleindienst said.
Though Disabled Veterans of America is a nationwide nonprofit with two locations in Southern California. Veterans advocates can choose from several options on the DAV website if interested in helping.
Donate to the Charitable Service Trust - Supports rehabilitation, crisis intervention, health care and more for veterans. Last year grants totaling $7.2 million were awarded across the U.S.
Donate to the National Service Foundation - Develops financial resources for assisting, aiding and maintaining the care and support of ill and injured veterans and their families.
Donate a car, home or land - Proceeds from properties help DAV continue to support veterans. Cars and boats are used to help “ensure our nation’s heroes have the opportunity to enjoy the freedoms their sacrifices have made possible.”
If you can’t donate funds, donating time is more than enough, according to Kleindienst.
“Just volunteering in your community and meeting those needs that veterans might need your extra time and attention for - like lawn care or raking leaves,” he said, adding that those opportunities can be found on the DAV’s website.
