“It was great being with you,” President Donald Trump said to Jaxson Dart, a quarterback for the New York Giants, in a Saturday Truth Social post.
Why was the president giving a shout out to the football player? It all stems from a rally Trump held last Friday. Dart introduced the president to an audience gathered at Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York.
Dart’s teammate, Abdul Carter, took to social media the following day to comment on Dart’s appearance at the event.
“Thought this s**t was AI, what we doing man,” Carter wrote in a post on X.
According to the National Football League, the post has been deleted. Carter later posted that he and Dart were “good” and had talked about the issue.
Dart has also publicly spoken about his choice to announce Trump at the Suffern event.
“This was a unique opportunity being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States,” Dart said. “My thinking was pretty simple in the fact of I’ve always loved this country. I have extended family members who have fought in wars.”
Dart added: “the president position has always been a position that I’ve well-respected, regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party, and, you know, my intentions were just that.”
However, the 23-year-old also said he realizes that “politics can be a sensitive matter.” Dart said that his teammates have had conversations on the matter. Carter, 22, said that he thinks Dart is a “good dude” and that Dart did not need to apologize.
In his Saturday post, Trump offered support for Dart.
“I know you’re taking some heat from the Radical Left Lunatics who are jealous of you, me, and everyone who surrounds us but, I also know that your Jersey also went to Number One, and you’re making Millions of Dollars so, YOU ARE A WINNER — THEY ARE ALL LOSERS,” said the president. “I’ll see you in the White House!”
