If 25th Amendment isn't invoked soon, second Trump impeachment 'absolutely' could happen

America is still reeling from the armed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, which disrupted the peaceful transfer of power to the incoming Biden administration, left four people dead and many others injured.

Several members of Congress, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, are calling for Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office before his term ends later this month.

Among those members saying it is time to declare the president unfit, is Representative John Garamendi, a Democrat representing portions of the North Bay. His 3rd District includes parts of Solano and Lake counties, plus the Sacramento area and Colusa, Sutter and Yuba counties.

"It was a very easy and direct thing to do and it’s not the only thing we should do," he said. "We should also impeach the president once again."

In fact, Garamendi told KCBS Radio’s "The State Of California" the likelihood of an impeachment is "very, very good."

Garamendi, along with several of his colleagues, have signed on to an impeachment resolution. It’s not clear if it’s the same resolution put forth by Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar, which could come as early as Friday.

The Democrat pointed to the president’s tweets and rhetoric at the Wednesday rally immediately preceding the siege on the Capitol as clear evidence that’s "on the record" to be presented during impeachment proceedings.

As for talk of the vice president and the Cabinet invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office, Garamendi isn’t convinced Trump’s inner circle will do what he believes is necessary, forcing the hand of the pro-impeachment crowd.

"Do I think Mike Pence has the courage to do it? No, I don’t," Garamendi said bluntly. "Therefore, I believe we should proceed immediately to an impeachment and perhaps the Senate will follow quickly, try and remove this man from office before he would leave office in the normal process of the January 20th inauguration of (Joe) Biden and Kamala Harris."

Earlier Thursday, Pelosi said impeachment was on the table because "any day can be a horror show for America" in the 13 days remaining in Trump’s term.
