East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s deputies shot and arrested a man they say touched off a violent array of events Sunday morning, one that resulted in at least one death.

Police have charged Aaron Morgan, 28, with the death of his grandmother, Dianne Gafford. Gafford was shot and killed four days shy of her 79th birthday. Morgan is also alleged to have stabbed his mother during the same incident. She survived, and her name was withheld by authorities.

From there, police say Morgan fled to the Alexander’s grocery store on Highland Road and shot three people, stealing a vehicle to escape. Morgan later abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, pointing his gun at police when they caught up.

At that point, Morgan was shot by the responding officers and apprehended. His injuries are said to be not life-threatening.

Morgan will be charged upon his release from the hospital.
