If you’re already dreading the dreary days of the cold weather months and thinking about migrating to a warmer climate, you’d better start salting away as much cash as you can.

Listen and subscribe to The L.A. Local podcast: your TL;DR for what's happening in Southern California

A new study from U.S. News & World Report ranked the most expensive places to live in the U.S. in 2023, and the top of the chart is dominated by big cities populated by sandy beaches and bright sunshine.

The verdict? The nation’s least affordable city is currently San Diego, Calif. The median price for a single-family home in San Diego will set you back about $1 million.

That’s almost $650,000 above the national average.

California actually boasts three of the top five cities on the list with Los Angeles in the runner-up spot and Santa Barbara sitting at #5.

In between, more beachfront property occupies the rest of the top five with Honolulu and Miami sitting third and fourth on the list.
