(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Thanksgiving is one of, if not the busiest travel time of the year — but it’s possible to travel during the holiday week without breaking the bank or losing your patience.

Cindy Richards, the editor in chief of shebuystravel.com in Chicago, told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that travelers can skip the crowds if they decide to travel on Thanksgiving day itself.

“Really good chance that you’re going to have a whole row of seats on the airplane to yourself because those flights are underpopulated across the board on the holiday itself,” Richards said.

For those who don’t want to miss out on a big feast, she added that taking a cruise or staying at an all inclusive resort will often ensure that the big feast is be made for you.

It’s worth noting, though, that the short-term spending bill passed by Congress at the end of September will expire Nov. 17 — and airport staffing could be significantly impacted by a government shutdown.
