An Indiana man has been arrested after he reportedly shot and killed his ex-wife's new husband during her mother's funeral.

Stefen Lowe, 35, has been charged with the murder of 42-year-old Alan Turman, whom he shot during the Saturday funeral of his ex-wife's mother, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Apparently, Lowe -- who was wearing a red suit -- showed up at the funeral uninvited, prompting Turman to confront him. A "verbal and physical disturbance" followed outside the church before mourners broke up the fight and Lowe got into his car, according to a police report obtained by WISH-TV.

Witnesses told police they "observed the male in the red suit driving past their vehicle and a few seconds later they heard gunshots," the police report said. Turman, who was shot twice, was dead by the time authorities arrived. Multiple witnesses identified Lowe as the gunman.

Lowe was picked up a few blocks away but refused to answer officers' questions and was taken into custody, according to police.

Shannon Turman told the Indianapolis Star that Lowe, who she divorced in February and had a protective order against, came to the funeral specifically looking for her and her new husband, who went by his middle name Jermaine.

"I am deeply, deeply hurt," she told the newspaper. "This person I used to be married to would have such hate to not want to see someone move on with their life and be happy. He saw that Jermaine and I were really happy together. We really loved each other. That was taken from both of us."

The grieving widow told WTHR that she and her husband "lived in fear" of Lowe, who had been harassing them and threating their lives.

"He had that anger in him that, 'If I can't have you, nobody can have you' kind of attitude. He actually told me and Jermaine that he owned me," she said. "He would threaten to kill us and threaten to pop up at our events and kill us. It was several altercations that he had done that."

On Saturday, he apparently made good on those threats.

"He did this in front of my son, in front of Jermaine's mother, and at my mother's funeral. Like those three things alone are like, 'What mind are you in to go to a funeral and kill someone?'" Shannon Turman told WTHR. "This is just too much. I can't mourn my mother at all and now my husband, and I'm trying to keep from losing my mind right now."

Lowe was arrested on a preliminary murder charge. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision. It's unclear whether bail has been set for him.
