ADRIAN, Mich. (WWJ) — There's a big stink in southern Michigan, and it smells like eggs.
A powdered egg maker is creating odors for residents in Adrian, Mich., prompting the Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and Air Quality Division to issue several violation notices in an ongoing investigation.
Crimson Holdings is the focus of many complaints ever since they switched from making powdered milk to making powdered eggs.
The violations issued by EGLE are in response to the facility not following Michigan's Air Pollution Control Rules, including three odor violations and changing a process without submitting the appropriate request.
In this specific case, EGLE says the company has been looking for a solution to address odors prior to a violation notice ever being sent.
The company must respond to the violations with a plan to address these issues by June 2.
EGLE will then make sure the response addresses the issue appropriately by ensuring the plan is completed and solves the problem.
