In the recall notice, the agency shared that the 2.1 million recalled swings were sold at Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, Toys R Us, and Amazon from October 2010 through January 2024 for around $160.
The swings, distributed by the Mattel-owned Fisher-Price, were involved in the deaths of five infants, who were 1 to 3 months old. The deaths occurred between 2012 and 2022, according to the agency. The swings were used for sleep, and the CPSC noted that in most cases the babies were not restrained, and bedding materials were added.
The recall notice advises consumers to immediately remove the headrest by cutting the tether and the body support insert from the seat pad. It’s also suggested that the swing be used only for awake-time activities.
The adjustments are suggested as the company discovered keeping both and adding bedding material can increase the risk of suffocation in infants.
For those who remove or destroy the headrest and body support insert, Fisher-Price is offering a $25 refund.
Consumers who have questions about the recall can contact Fisher-Price via its toll-free number at 855-853-6224 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. The company’s website also has a page dedicated to recalls.
