Mushrooms could play a key role in helping forests recover after a big fire.
The non-profit group Co-Renewal in Santa Cruz says oyster mushrooms have the ability to break down chemicals found in the ashes of things destroyed by fires.
Maya Elson, Executive Director of the group, says the plan is to to use mushroom-filled tubes to help filter toxic debris.
A study is being done now at the site of a big fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
