An old photo of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones roiled the football world after it surfaced on social media on Wednesday.
A teenage Jones can be seen standing near the back of a crowd of white students attempting to block Black students from integrating at a high school in Little Rock, Arkansas, in September 1957. Jones is expressionless, while several white students appear to be hostile.
The photo was published as part of a Washington Post article detailing Jones' shortcomings with respect to racial equality in the NFL, titled "Jerry Jones helped transform the NFL, except when it comes to race."
One of the article's most-discussed points is that the Cowboys have never had a Black head coach since Jones purchased the team in 1989.
In the story, the 80-year-old Jones explains that he joined the scene outside of the school out of curiosity rather than to resist the students' admittance.
But many users on social media weren't buying it.
