PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is self-quarantining after a member of his senior staff tested positive for COVID-19.
Murphy was speaking at a workforce development event in Camden County Wednesday, then introduced all the upcoming speakers at once, which didn’t seem like it was part of the plan.
“Why am I saying this? I was just informed by one of my colleagues that I was in close proximity to someone on Saturday who has just tested positive,” he explained.
The governor said he got his most recent COVID-19 test results back on Monday, which was negative. But this was before he learned of the exposure, so to be safe, he abruptly left the event.
“I will now, unfortunately, have to take myself off the field. I can’t ask President Trump not to come to Bedminster and do a fundraiser and have me sit here,” he added.
The governor took a test Wednesday afternoon that came back negative, but a spokesperson said he and his wife will cancel all in-person events and will be quarantining through the weekend. They will also both take another test before resuming engagements.
