Parents of alleged Michigan school shooter charged with involuntary manslaughter

DETROIT (WWJ) — The Oakland County Prosecutor has filed involuntary manslaughter charges against the suspect's parents in connection with the deadly mass shooting at Oxford High School.

James and Jennifer Crumbley were charged with four counts each.

Prosecutor Karen McDonald is holding press conference during the noon hour Friday explaining her decision and offering more details about the case.

She began by saying that while it's the teen who held the gun and fired, there were others who bear some responsibility for this tragedy.

McDonald said the 9mm semiautomatic pistol used in the shooting was purchased by James Crumbley father on Black Friday at Acme Shooting Goods in Oxford. When he bought the gun, which McDonald said social media posts show Ethan Crumbley stated was his "Christmas Present."

More developing details

Authorities have said 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley opened fire in a hallway at the school. Ten students and a teacher were shot before Crumbley surrendered to sheriff's deputies. Four student who were shot have died.

Social media comment attributed to the Oxford Twp. couple discuss guns, and former President Donald Trump protecting second amendment rights. In one Facebook post, the father reportedly wrote: "I want my child to get a gun."
