An unruly passenger is facing criminal charges after her flight was forced to make an unscheduled landing -- and she had to be restrained with zip ties.
Authorities say 32-year-old Chloe Dasilva was on an Alaskan Airlines flight from San Francisco to Chicago on April 7 when she took issue with a particular flight attendant and threatened to kill him.
"Dasilva, who had been disruptive during the flight, was involved in a confrontation with a male flight attendant, cussing and yelling and threatening to kill him," the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Missouri, said in a statement. "One of the passengers switched seats with a mother and her infant who was seated directly in front of Dasilva for their safety."
A flight attendant, with the assistance of two passengers, managed to restrain Dasilva with zip ties while the plane made an emergency stop in Kansas City.
"The pilot decided to divert to Kansas City instead of going to Chicago because he was concerned for the safety of the passengers," the Attorney's Office said.
According to court documents obtained by The Kansas City Star, Dasilva was disruptive before the early morning flight even left the ground, "acting odd" and demanding to know when the plane was leaving. The flight crew made a note of where she was sitting so they could keep an eye on her, according to the report.
After the flight was in the air, Dasilva reportedly complained about her seat and asked for a new one, but was told the flight was full. She was also heard banging on the bathroom door, The Star reported. When crew members went to check on her, they found her asleep but left her there out of safety concerns.
When Dasilva returned to her seat, she screamed and punched an overhead bin, according to the report. After briefly calming down, she allegedly rushed a flight attendant and threatened his life. She was then restrained at the captain's orders, The Star reported.
Dasilva is now facing a charge of interfering with flight crew members and attendants. She remains in federal custody, according to reports.
