Former President Bill Bill Clinton was hospitalized in Southern California for an infection — not related to COVID-19 — and is "on the mend", a spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
Doctors admitted the 75-year old to the University of California Medical Center Tuesday evening, a statement said. Sources told CNN the former president was hospitalized for a case of sepsis resulting from an unidentified illness.
The former president reportedly fell ill while on tour in Orange County for a Clinton Foundation event.
“He is on the mend, in good spirits and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care,” said Clinton's representative Angel Ureña.
A second statement released later Thursday said Clinton had been “administered IV antibiotics and fluids.”
"After two days of treatment, his white blood cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well,” his physicians stated. “The California-based medical team has been in constant communication with the President’s New York-based medical team, including his cardiologist. We hope to have him go home soon.”
Clinton, who underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 2004, has been hospitalized at least three times following the end of his time in the White House. Following placement of stents in his heart a decade ago, Clinton became a vegan.
