
DEARBORN (WWJ) – Michigan State Police are asking the public to stay away from an active shooting scene at a hotel in downtown Dearborn, Thursday afternoon.
Michigan State Police officials stressed that "this situation is active and dangerous" at the Hampton Inn at 22324 Michigan Avenue at Military, east of Telegraph Road.
Dearborn Police confirmed that at least one person was shot and was taken to a hospital, although that person's condition is unknown at this time.
Michigan Ave. is closed to traffic between Military and Monroe, and the public is being told by police to stay away from the area.
MSP officials said shots were being fired by the suspect, as of around 2:15 p.m., and troopers and officers were working on clearing the entire area around the hotel. By around 3 p.m., police said the hotel had been evacuated.
A this time police said that officers had the shooter contained in the building, and they were negotiation with him.
Officials have not released any further details about the incident, including what prompted the situation.
There remains strong police presence at the scene, with multiple police vehicles from multiple jurisdictions.
