DETROIT (WWJ) -- A widespread recall from Ford Motor Co. involves nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the U.S.

WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert said Wednesday that this massive recall is the result of a problem with the rearview cameras, impacting most Ford and Lincoln products from the last three years.

The issue, Gilbert said, can prevent the camera from showing what's behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

"A software issue can cause the images from those cameras to delay, freeze, or even not show at all," Gilbert explained. "Ford is currently working working on a software fix."

The recall covers 2021 to 2024 Broncos, F-150s, and Edges, as well as newer Escapes, the Corsair and almost all F-model trucks.

Owners of the vehicles included in the recall will be notified, and dealers are expected to update the impacted software for free.

Gilbert said there's no word at this time if the issue has caused any crashes or injuries.
