Does a thriving economy on paper matter much if Americans who aren’t among the elite earners don’t feel the positive growth?
That’s the subject of a new poll that shows a lot of unhappiness with the U.S. economy despite the fact that experts say it’s doing well.
The poll, conducted by The Harris Poll in conjunction with Axios, offered the statement: “Economists may say things are getting better, but we’re not feeling it where I live.”
More than three-quarters of respondents – 76% – agreed with the statement.
Meanwhile, 88% agreed that “gas, groceries and housing costs – not stocks – are the real economic indicators I care about.”
AS for how Americans rate their current financial situation, 37% of all respondents answered “poor.” That number climbed to 42% among Republicans, 43% among women, 46% of those who live in rural areas, 47% of single people and 57% among renters.
