The FDA announced the recall following the Washington State Department of Agriculture discovering the bacteria in the product while it was going through a routine test, the recall notice said.

The products affected by the recall were sent by the company to distributors from February through June 2022 and were sold at stores in 10 states.

The states impacted include Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Washington State, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts.

When checking whether or not their product was recalled, consumers should look for lot number 123172 with the UPC code 060022710356.

The recall shared that no other products from St. James Smokehouse are affected by this recall.

Listeria can result in high fever, stiffness, nausea, severe headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, the recall said.

Infections can sometimes be fatal in “young children, frail, or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the recall shared. In addition, pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths.

As of Sept. 2, there haven’t been any cases of listeria connected to recalled products.
