Taking up the case, the L.A. Innocence Project filed three motions - one for DNA, another for discovery, and a third motion asking for the evidence to be sealed.

Legal analyst Stephen Clark said it's significant that the judge is even giving the requests the time of day, and Bay Area criminal defense attorney Michael Cardoza, who followed the original trial closely, said the LAIP has a few points worth exploring.

Cardoza tells KNX News that one point of interest involves a mattress with DNA on it in an orange van that was tested long ago. He also said, "There was a burglary across the street from Laci's house. When did that burglary occur? Did it occur the day that she went missing? If it did, then the theory is she may have confronted those burglars; burglars kidnap her and eventually kill her."

Cardoza said the Innocence Project is asking to retest the mattress and car along with some things found in the house.

He says he thinks the jury that convicted Peterson was under intense pressure to convict.

Neither side commented after Tuesday's hearing at the Hall of Justice in Redwood City.
