During an event on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, took a shot at former President Donald Trump after the Republican nominee started using new nicknames for his new opponent.
The new names Trump has moved on to now that “Crooked Joe Biden” has dropped out of the race include “Laughin’ Kamala” and “Lyin’ Kamala.”
Trump is no stranger to using schoolyard nicknames, as he has an arsenal for all of his rivals, including “Meatball Ron” for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, “Little Marco” for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and “Crazy Hillary” for Hillary Clinton, to name a few.
However, Emhoff challenged the now tried and true tactic from Trump, asking those at the event if he would do anything substantial.
“That’s all he’s got?” Emhoff questioned.
Emhoff said his focus was helping his wife, who had laid out her plan to secure victory in the Democratic nominee and then the White House in just 105 days.
“You heard the Vice President yesterday making the case against Donald Trump. Very clearly laid out the case, directly and in a compelling fashion,” he said. “But she also laid out a vision for the future. A vision where there’s freedom. Where we’re not having to talk about these issues of today in this post-Dobbs Hellscape that Donald Trump created.”
Polls run since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race over the weekend, Trump and Harris appear to match up closely, and Democrats have flocked to support her bid for the nominee.
In the first 24 hours of her campaign, Harris set fundraising records, bringing in more than $80 million, and Emhoff says this shows the excitement behind her bid.

“You see the enthusiasm, you see the excitement,” Emhoff said. “You saw the money raised, you saw the party coalesce. You saw the broad base of support that she had in just one or two days because she’s talking about an America that we all have a place in.”
